BFG Healthcare Marketing worked with spirometry systems manufacturer Cardinal Health to look at the feasibility of pharmacies screening for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
COPD affects more than 3 million people and is the second largest cause of emergency hospital admissions in the UK. BFG Healthcare Marketing undertook pilot trials of pharmacy screening to demonstrate how COPD flare-ups can be identified and monitored, helping to prevent hospitalisation.
Following the feasibility study, BFG Healthcare Marketing drafted a smoking cessation strategy to be implemented in pharmacies across the country. The strategy outlined how pharmacies could offer COPD spirometory screening to help identify sufferers, along with a smoking cessation programme that would help smokers quit.
The strategy included a full financial analysis and implementation strategy and led to a chain of 100 supermarket pharmacies introducing a screening programme using Cardinal Health’s spirometers.
